Coaches OTA COVID-19 Protocols

  • All Coaches seeking to participate in pre-season activities must receive a COVD-19 test no more than 72 hours before participation.
  • Coaches must take their own temperature before each OTA activity. If your temperature is above 100.3 you are not allowed to participate during that OTA.
  • Coaches must support decisions of participants, parents and adult leaders/coaches who are uncomfortable participating in football and cheer activities for any reason.
  • Wear masks during football and cheer activities. (Participants may wear mask-parents/participant choice during exercise)
  • Minimize physical contact between participants and coaches. No handshakes, high fives, or other physical touching before, during or after football or cheer activities. Observe six feet distancing by demonstrating drills through during training.
  • Sanitize hands and all training equipment (cones, etc.) before, as needed during and after all activities. Coaches alone shall be permitted to retrieve, setup, gather and store all training equipment. (Please do not ask participants to handle training equipment)
  • Hand Sanitizer stations must be made available to all participants.
  • Coach must verify that all participants hands have been sanitized prior to the start of any activity.
  • Coach must verify that all participant uniforms have been sanitized with a spray sanitizer such as Lysol spray prior to the start of any activity
  • Coach must take the temperature of each participant before they take the field for OTA’s. If their temperature is above 100.3 the player or cheerleader is not allowed to participate.
  • Practice facility water fountains are NOT to be used and are off limits.
  • Footballs are NOT to be used during pre-season training.
  • Coach must keep a daily journal of all items sanitized and interview question results. Sanitized items should include participants, equipment, high touch areas and themselves.
  • Report knowledge of COVID-19 cases to NMYAFL and maintaining confidentiality. Close/cancel activities to properly disinfect and consult the local health district for guidance for specific situations.
  • Before returning to activity, all coaches must first meet and be able to document how they will meet, all NMYAFL Return to Activity Protocols, NM COVID Safe Practices (CSP), and local government requirements.

Limitations on Gatherings

  • No gathering of more than 6 people at a time, inside or outside (5:1 participant to coach ratio).
  • Workouts should be conducted in “groups” of participants with the same 5 participants always working out together with the same coach to limit overall exposures during that workout.
  • The number of indoor facility “groups” may not exceed 3 at one time. Outdoor facility “groups” may not exceed 5 at one time. If safe social distancing cannot occur within your facility, group number and/or size should be reduced.
  • There must be a minimum distance of 6 feet between each individual at all times. If this is not possible indoors, then the maximum number of individuals in the room must be decreased to obtain a minimum distance of 6 feet between each individual.
